My Inspiration
My inspiration traces its roots to street art, pop culture and my friends’ and community’s dynamic and vibrant personalities. A visit to London's Shoreditch neighborhood changed my viewpoint on art and inspired me to create. From then on, I sought out murals in my travels and in my everyday life. Street art blends social commentary, bold colors, as well as the creative use of environment never fails to captivate my attention...something I hope to portray in my art. I am determined to showcase the stories of communities and individuals whose colorful and vibrant ways of being are often overlooked. In honoring their identity and cultural roots these communities assert their presence in the modern American landscape similar to the subjects of bold murals I see in cities across the U.S and the world. They are not passive subjects confined to a flat narrative, but individuals empowered by their own unique lived experience.
